SEL0821 – Sports Massage<br />

Units: 1<br />

This course covers traditional sports massage techniques <strong>for</strong> the treatment of athletes <strong>and</strong> their injuries. It is<br />

designed to equip students with a greater underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>and</strong> appreciation of the specific needs of sports<br />

participants in the preparation <strong>for</strong> <strong>and</strong> recovery from activity. The course will also investigate the value of<br />

sports massage in the early detection <strong>and</strong> the prevention of sports injuries in addition to being a valuable tool<br />

in the rehabilitation of such conditions. It provides a clear underst<strong>and</strong>ing of pre-event <strong>and</strong> post-event sports<br />

massage. Students will learn the distinction between restorative massages <strong>for</strong> per<strong>for</strong>mance enhancement <strong>and</strong><br />

rehabilitative techniques <strong>for</strong> injury recovery.<br />

SEL0823 – Advanced Diversified Technique <strong>for</strong> Lumbar <strong>and</strong> Pelvis<br />

Units: 1<br />

This laboratory course is designed to introduce the student to variations to the application of diversified<br />

adjusting techniques of the lumbar spine <strong>and</strong> pelvis. The course is designed to enhance the student’s<br />

adjusting skills by improving effectiveness <strong>and</strong> increasing confidence.<br />

SEL0826 – Advanced Diversified Technique <strong>for</strong> Cervical Spine<br />

Units: 1<br />

This laboratory course is designed to advance the student’s Cervical adjusting skills. The course will emphasize<br />

assessment <strong>and</strong> application of the adjustments to the Cervical spine <strong>and</strong> will also include patient education,<br />

exercises, <strong>and</strong> methods of prevention of injuries.<br />

SEL0830 – Nutrition <strong>and</strong> Disease<br />

Units: 1<br />

Health care practitioners today recognize the critical role that nutrition plays in clinical practice. Scientific<br />

evidence has shown that food choices <strong>and</strong> certain supplements can lessen <strong>and</strong> sometimes even reverse the<br />

symptoms of disease. This course is designed to provide the student with an opportunity to advance their<br />

knowledge of the application of nutritional therapy in the management of select medical conditions. Through<br />

the use of case studies <strong>and</strong> evidence-based applications of nutritional therapies, students will learn how to<br />

diagnose conditions that are responsive to nutritional interventions <strong>and</strong> <strong>for</strong>mulate comprehensive nutritional<br />

management plans.<br />

SEL0835 – Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT)<br />

Units: 1<br />

This laboratory course is an introduction to the Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT) category system of analysis<br />

with focus on evidence based terminology, protocols, <strong>and</strong> clinical application. The class will focus on teaching<br />

basic SOT skills as developed by its founder M.B. DeJarnette, DO, DC.<br />
