Academic Requirements<br />
All prerequisite courses must be completed by January 15, 2018 to be eligible <strong>for</strong> the September 2018<br />
enrollment date. All prerequisites must be completed at a college or university accredited by one of the U.S.<br />
Regional Accrediting Associations. Prerequisites in the core sciences must have occurred within the last 7 years.<br />
• Bachelor degree from a regionally accredited college or university;<br />
• Prerequisite college courses in core sciences:<br />
o chemistry (8 semester units), which must include lab credits; acceptable chemistry courses<br />
include: general, organic, inorganic, <strong>and</strong> biochemistry*<br />
o human anatomy* (4 semester units) which must include lab credits<br />
o human physiology* (4 semester units) which must include lab credits<br />
o microbiology* (4 semester units) which must include lab credits<br />
• Prerequisite general college courses:<br />
o mathematics, which must be algebra or higher (2 semester units)<br />
o psychology* (3 semester units)<br />
o English composition (3 semester units)<br />
o sociology or cultural anthropology (3 semester units)<br />
o statistics -which is in addition to the mathematics requirement- must be from within math,<br />
social sciences, or health sciences departments (3 semester units)<br />
• Recommended courses:<br />
o medical terminology<br />
o conversational Spanish<br />
o genetics*<br />
• Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or above. For core science prerequisites, 3.0 or above is<br />
required.<br />
• Health care experience: 500 hours clinical experience is required. Examples of the types of clinical<br />
experiences include, but are not limited to:<br />
o Military medic or corpsman<br />
o Chiropractic<br />
o Naturopathic Medicine<br />
o Acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Oriental Medicine<br />
o Back Office Medical Assistant (MA)<br />
o Certified Nurses’ Aide<br />
o EMT (patient care hours only)<br />
o Licensed Vocational Nurse<br />
o Paramedic<br />
o Respiratory Therapist<br />
o Physical Therapy Aide<br />
o Radiological Technician<br />
o Occupational Therapist Aide<br />
o Registered Nurse<br />
*Additional consideration will be given to applicants with volunteer community service or military<br />
experience (verifiable by the DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, a "DD-<br />
