Doctor of Acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Chinese Medicine<br />
The College of Eastern Medicine offers a 10-trimester (three years <strong>and</strong> three months), full-time Doctor of<br />
Acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Chinese Medicine (DACM) Program. The DACM is a first professional degree emphasizing in<br />
interprofessional education.<br />
At the end of the first year of study, students choose a concentration track in which they will take at least 150<br />
hours of didactic education. The concentration selective options are: orthopedics, healthy aging, <strong>and</strong> nutrition.<br />
Students complete a written capstone project in clinical medicine, research, or classical text translation.<br />
Accreditation<br />
The First Professional Doctorate of Acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Chinese Medicine (DACM) program of the College of<br />
Eastern Medicine at Southern Cali<strong>for</strong>nia University of Health Sciences is not accredited or pre-accredited<br />
(c<strong>and</strong>idacy) by the Accreditation Commission <strong>for</strong> Acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Oriental Medicine (ACAOM). Graduates of<br />
this program are not considered to have graduated from an ACAOM accredited or c<strong>and</strong>idate program <strong>and</strong> may<br />
not rely on ACAOM accreditation or c<strong>and</strong>idacy <strong>for</strong> professional licensure or other purposes.<br />
The College of Eastern Medicine at the Southern Cali<strong>for</strong>nia University of Health Sciences is in the process of<br />
seeking ACAOM c<strong>and</strong>idacy/accreditation <strong>for</strong> the DACM program. However, the College of Eastern Medicine can<br />
provide no assurance that c<strong>and</strong>idacy or accreditation will be granted by ACAOM.<br />
The Doctorate of Acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Chinese Medicine program is approved by the Cali<strong>for</strong>nia Acupuncture Board.<br />
Program Learning Outcomes<br />
Oriental Medicine Diagnosis Graduates will synthesize etiology <strong>and</strong> clinical manifestations to construct Oriental<br />
Medicine differential diagnoses.<br />
Acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Moxibustion Therapies Graduates will prescribe <strong>and</strong> <strong>for</strong>mulate acupuncture, moxibustion, <strong>and</strong><br />
related Oriental Medicine therapies.<br />
Herbal Therapy Graduates will plan <strong>and</strong> prescribe herbal <strong>for</strong>mulas <strong>and</strong> modifications.<br />
Biomedical Diagnosis Graduates will synthesize pathogenesis <strong>and</strong> clinical manifestations to construct Western<br />
Medicine differential diagnoses.<br />
Evidence-based Practice Graduates will synthesize <strong>and</strong> apply historical <strong>and</strong> scientific evidence in clinical<br />
practice.<br />
Business <strong>and</strong> Clinical Practice Graduates will assess business principles to develop a clinical practice.<br />
Communication Graduates will effectively communicate verbally, non-verbally, <strong>and</strong> in written <strong>for</strong>m.<br />
Professionalism Graduates will demonstrate leadership, integrity, <strong>and</strong> respect <strong>for</strong> all, <strong>and</strong> actively engage in<br />
ethical, moral, <strong>and</strong> legal st<strong>and</strong>ards of the profession.<br />
Inter-professional Collaboration Graduates will collaborate with appropriate professionals to plan <strong>and</strong> manage<br />
patient-centered care.<br />
