XR0515 – Diagnostic Imaging Basics <strong>and</strong> Anatomy<br />

Units: 3<br />

This is an introductory level course pertaining to the appearance of both osseous <strong>and</strong> soft tissue anatomy as<br />

visualized on plain film radiographs <strong>and</strong> to a lesser extent advanced imaging. Anatomic areas covered include<br />

the spine, extremities, chest <strong>and</strong> abdomen. Emphasis will be placed on the categories of anatomy<br />

identification both on plain films, <strong>and</strong> to a lesser extent CT <strong>and</strong> MRI, normal/congenital variants <strong>and</strong><br />

developing a search pattern approach to radiographic image interpretation. Clinical reasoning behind the<br />

imaging of patients will also be discussed. Teaching methods include lectures, skills laboratory, <strong>and</strong> problem<br />

based large group discussions that focus on clinical reasoning.<br />

XR0620 – Image Interpretation II<br />

Units: 5<br />

This is an advanced level course that is focused on developing search pattern <strong>and</strong> radiographic<br />

identification/interpretive skills. The course will cover the radiographic appearances of pathologies affecting<br />

the spine, lower extremity <strong>and</strong> upper extremity. Practical application of advanced imaging modalities in the<br />

assessment of pathology will be presented when appropriate. Teaching methods include lectures, skills<br />

laboratory, radiology report writing exercises <strong>and</strong> problem based group discussions that focus on clinical<br />

reasoning.<br />

XR0711 – Radiographic Positioning <strong>and</strong> Technology<br />

Units: 1<br />

This intermediate level course focuses on the skills <strong>and</strong> knowledge necessary to produce optimum quality<br />

radiographs in the clinical setting. Various aspects of patient positioning, factor calculation <strong>and</strong> film<br />

development are presented throughout this course. Methods of instruction primarily involve laboratory<br />

demonstrations <strong>and</strong> h<strong>and</strong>s on instructor guided laboratory exercises.<br />
