Academic dismissal is expulsion from the University <strong>for</strong> academic reasons. Students who have been dismissed<br />

<strong>for</strong> academic reasons may not return to the college except through the application process <strong>for</strong> admission, <strong>and</strong> if<br />

accepted <strong>for</strong> matriculation, must begin their education from the beginning of the program.<br />

Academic Counseling, Mentoring <strong>and</strong> Tutoring Assistance: These are specific activities that are provided by the<br />

University as adjuncts to student’s academic per<strong>for</strong>mance enhancement. Students may, at the discretion of the<br />

Academic Review <strong>and</strong> Support Committee, the College Dean, the Vice President <strong>for</strong> Academic Affairs or the Vice<br />

President <strong>for</strong> Enrollment Management <strong>and</strong> Student Affairs, be required to participate in counseling, mentoring<br />

or tutoring. These activities will be available to students, including those who are experiencing, or are at<br />

significant risk <strong>for</strong> experiencing difficulties in maintaining the scholastic st<strong>and</strong>ards of the University. The<br />

Academic Review <strong>and</strong> Support Committee, College Dean, Vice President <strong>for</strong> Academic Affairs or Vice President<br />

<strong>for</strong> Enrollment Management <strong>and</strong> Student Affairs may choose, at their discretion, to intervene prior to the<br />

presence of academic jeopardy if significant indicators suggest that academic jeopardy is imminent.<br />

A student whose term GPA has been below 2.0 <strong>for</strong> three trimesters will be recommended <strong>for</strong> dismissal from the<br />

University.<br />

Academic Probation Actions<br />

(SCU Policy 5.5.5.3.2.1)<br />

A student with a GPA of less than 2.00 is placed on academic probation. Any student placed on academic<br />

probation will be notified by the Vice President <strong>for</strong> Academic Affairs or his/her designee. The Financial Aid Office<br />

will be notified when a student is placed on academic probation. Eligibility to receive aid as well as eligibility <strong>for</strong><br />

CCO participation may be affected when a student is on academic probation. The Academic Review <strong>and</strong> Support<br />

Committee may take the following actions following review <strong>for</strong> students on academic probation:<br />

1. A student whose term grade point average falls below 2.00 <strong>for</strong> the first or second time may be faced with the<br />

following actions:<br />

a. The student may be placed on “Midterm Monitor”;<br />

b. A student may be required to take an abbreviated schedule the next trimester. This may include the<br />

withdrawal from at least one major course (defined as having four or more units);<br />

c. A student may not be allowed to progress in the curriculum. That student will be required to repeat courses<br />

where their per<strong>for</strong>mance was subst<strong>and</strong>ard (grades less than “C”);<br />

d. A student may be placed on academic suspension. The student, upon their return to the curriculum, will not<br />

be allowed to progress in the program until they have achieved a GPA of 2.00 or greater;<br />

e. A student may be required to participate in the universities mentoring program a minimum of one term after<br />

being placed on academic probation;<br />

f. A student may be required to participate in academic counseling.<br />

2. A student whose term grade point average falls below 2.00 <strong>for</strong> the third time will be faced with the following<br />

actions:<br />

a. Will be dismissed with no opportunity <strong>for</strong> return to the college of their academic dismissal, except as a<br />

beginning student. A student may apply to other colleges within the University through the regularly established<br />
