• A personal interview with a member of the Faculty Admissions Committee will be required of applicants<br />
prior to final selection. This personal admissions interview will normally be scheduled on campus. Under<br />
certain circumstances, an off-campus or telephone admissions interview may be arranged.<br />
Applicants with prerequisites in progress must complete them prior to the starting date of classes <strong>and</strong> official<br />
transcripts showing such course work must follow in a timely manner. Students who have not submitted final<br />
transcripts prior to the start of the first day of classes will receive a provisional acceptance into the Master of<br />
Acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Oriental Medicine Program. The student must have a completed admissions file within 30 days<br />
of the start of the trimester. If the student does not have a complete admissions file by the 30 th day, the student<br />
may be subject to Administrative Withdrawal from the program <strong>and</strong> will be responsible <strong>for</strong> any tuition due.<br />
Application <strong>and</strong> enrollment fees shall be valid <strong>for</strong> a maximum period of twelve months; which corresponds to<br />
three enrollment periods.<br />
Academic Requirements<br />
C<strong>and</strong>idates <strong>for</strong> admission to the College of Eastern Medicine Master of Acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Oriental Medicine<br />
Program must possess a high school diploma <strong>and</strong> must have completed at least two years (60 semester units or<br />
90 quarter units) of education from an accredited college or university, earning a minimum grade point average<br />
of 2.50 on a 4.0 grade scale. In addition to the 60 semester units required <strong>for</strong> admission, applicants must<br />
complete a minimum of 2 semester units each in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, <strong>and</strong> Psychology with a “C” (2.0 on<br />
a 4.0 grade scale) grade or higher. These must be completed prior to matriculation into the Master of<br />
Acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Oriental Medicine Program at SCU.<br />
In addition to general SCU English-language requirements <strong>for</strong> international students, applicants <strong>for</strong> whom<br />
English is not a primary language must demonstrate competency by scoring at least 61 (iBT based) on the Test of<br />
English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) <strong>and</strong> a minimum speaking exam score of 26 <strong>and</strong> a minimum listening exam<br />
score of 22. As an alternative, a student can score a level 6 on the International English Language Testing System<br />
(IELTS) exam to demonstrate competency.<br />

time of application.<br />
Physical Requirements<br />
The primary goal of the College of Eastern Medicine is to prepare students to become competent, caring<br />
acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Chinese medicine practitioners. Contemporary acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Chinese medicine education<br />
requires that the acquisition <strong>and</strong> utilization of scientific <strong>and</strong> professional knowledge be accompanied by<br />
necessary sets of skills, professional attitudes, <strong>and</strong> behavior.<br />
The College of Eastern Medicine maintains that prospective <strong>and</strong> enrolled students must meet certain technical<br />
st<strong>and</strong>ards, which are essential <strong>for</strong> successful completion of all phases of the educational program. C<strong>and</strong>idates<br />
<strong>for</strong> the master of acupuncture <strong>and</strong> oriental medicine degree must meet the following technical st<strong>and</strong>ards with<br />
or without reasonable accommodations. C<strong>and</strong>idates <strong>for</strong> admission <strong>and</strong> students must demonstrate:<br />
1. The strength, coordination, <strong>and</strong> ability to st<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> use the torso <strong>and</strong> all limbs in the per<strong>for</strong>mance of<br />
common acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Chinese medicine manual procedures <strong>and</strong> techniques.<br />
2. The strength, manual dexterity, <strong>and</strong> tactile perceptiveness <strong>and</strong> ability to per<strong>for</strong>m in all laboratory <strong>and</strong><br />
clinical settings, to diagnose <strong>and</strong> treat human ailments, <strong>and</strong> to maintain the safety <strong>and</strong> wellbeing of<br />
fellow students <strong>and</strong> patients without posing a threat to themselves.<br />
