ACL906 –Independent Practice II<br />
Units: 7<br />
This course is the final in the third phase of clinical internship training <strong>and</strong> is designed to develop independent<br />
practice skills <strong>for</strong> interns to prepare them to become licensed AOM practitioners. Independent Practice (IP)<br />
interns actively participate in patient care more independently throughout the entire patient management<br />
process, although treatment protocols must be approved by their Clinical Supervisors. IP interns also engage<br />
in various other educational experiences, including case presentations, workshops, clinic rounds, guest<br />
lectures, <strong>and</strong> clinic promotional activities.<br />

ACL1010 – Advanced Clinical Practice<br />
Units: 10<br />
Under the direct supervision of clinical faculty, interns will interview patients, per<strong>for</strong>m appropriate physical<br />
assessments, make a differential diagnosis <strong>and</strong> determine a treatment course that will include acupuncture<br />
<strong>and</strong> other treatment modalities, herbal prescriptions, biomedical diagnosis, lab <strong>and</strong> diagnostic images, <strong>and</strong><br />
appropriate referrals where necessary. A portion of this segment of clinical education may take place off<br />
campus at approved integrative healthcare facilities <strong>and</strong>/or hospital settings.<br />

ACL1210 – Clinical Observation I<br />
Units: 1<br />
This course introduces components of the patient interview with emphasis on effective verbal <strong>and</strong> written<br />
communication, development of appropriate interpersonal skills <strong>and</strong> establishing the doctor-patient<br />
relationship. Students will critically observe clinical encounters.<br />
Prerequisites: APP1110<br />

ACL1310 – Clinical Observation II<br />
Units: 1<br />
This course introduces the different levels, expectations, necessary attitudes <strong>and</strong> procedures required <strong>for</strong><br />
clinical training. In addition, students will learn the use of electronic health records <strong>and</strong> how to search<br />
evidence in clinical cases. Students will continue to critically observe clinical encounters.<br />
Prerequisites: ACL1210<br />
Restrictions: DACM program only<br />
ACL1410 – Clinical Observation III<br />
Units: 3<br />
This course emphasizes on the student learning in clinical setting. Students will actively participate in the<br />
observation of patient care under the supervision of a licensed acupuncturist but not actually per<strong>for</strong>ming<br />
h<strong>and</strong>s-on treatment. They will critically observe clinical encounters <strong>and</strong> utilize evidence to support their<br />
observed patient cases. Students may also engage in various other educational experiences, including case<br />
presentations, workshops, clinic rounds, guest lectures, <strong>and</strong> clinic promotional activities.<br />
