<strong>Mission</strong> <strong>and</strong> Goals<br />
The mission of the College of Eastern Medicine is to provide students with a quality education in Acupuncture<br />
<strong>and</strong> Chinese Medicine, emphasizing health promotion <strong>and</strong> integrative health care.<br />
Goals:<br />
• Provide outst<strong>and</strong>ing education in Acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Oriental Medicine.<br />
• Train students to become knowledgeable, competent, conscientious, <strong>and</strong> committed healthcare<br />
providers emphasizing holistic <strong>and</strong> integrative approaches.<br />
• Promote <strong>and</strong> encourage Acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Oriental Medicine research activities among faculty <strong>and</strong><br />
students.<br />
• Foster evidence-based practices <strong>and</strong> life-long learning skills.<br />
Master of Acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Oriental Medicine<br />
The College of Eastern Medicine offers a 10-trimester (three years <strong>and</strong> four months), full-time Master of<br />
Acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Oriental Medicine Program. Graduates of the Master of Acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Oriental Medicine<br />
Program are eligible to sit <strong>for</strong> national certification <strong>and</strong> Cali<strong>for</strong>nia acupuncture licensing exams.<br />

The Master of Acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Oriental Medicine program at SCU is accredited by the Accreditation<br />
Commission <strong>for</strong> Acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Oriental Medicine (ACAOM), 8941 Aztec Drive, Eden Prairie, MN 55347.<br />

The Master of Acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Oriental Medicine program is also approved by the Cali<strong>for</strong>nia Acupuncture<br />
Board.<br />
Program Learning Outcomes<br />
Oriental Medicine Pattern Differentiation Graduates will evaluate <strong>and</strong> analyze the pathogenesis of syndromes<br />
through the application of Oriental Medicine theories <strong>and</strong> diagnostic methods.<br />
Acupuncture <strong>and</strong> Moxibustion Therapies Graduates will evaluate the patient in order to prescribe <strong>and</strong> per<strong>for</strong>m<br />
acupuncture <strong>and</strong> related Oriental Medicine therapies.<br />
Herbal Therapy Graduates will evaluate patients, per<strong>for</strong>m <strong>and</strong> prescribe herbal <strong>for</strong>mulas <strong>and</strong> modifications.<br />
Biomedical Diagnosis <strong>and</strong> Treatment Graduates will integrate biomedicine <strong>and</strong> diagnostic studies into clinical<br />
practices <strong>and</strong> referrals.<br />
In<strong>for</strong>mation Literacy Graduates will appraise <strong>and</strong> apply historical <strong>and</strong> scientific in<strong>for</strong>mation into clinical practice.<br />
Communication Graduates will effectively communicate verbally, non-verbally, <strong>and</strong> in written <strong>for</strong>m.<br />
