CPM0409 – Public Health<br />

This course will introduce students to the field of public <strong>and</strong> community health. Students will learn about the<br />

methods used to determine the health care needs of a community <strong>and</strong> how these can be addressed by the<br />

combined ef<strong>for</strong>t of various health care workers <strong>and</strong> public <strong>and</strong> private entities. There will be a focus on major<br />

current public health issues <strong>and</strong> the prevention of significant causes of mortality <strong>and</strong> morbidity.<br />

CRE0201 – Research <strong>and</strong> Evidence-Based Healthcare<br />

Units: 2<br />

This course is designed to develop students’ practical skills in clinical problem solving by reading <strong>and</strong><br />

appraising published health sciences literature <strong>for</strong> its validity (closeness to truth) <strong>and</strong> usefulness (clinical<br />

applicability). The students will be introduced to the application of key basic concepts in clinical epidemiology,<br />

clinical study design, <strong>and</strong> biostatistics. The goal of this course is to develop part of the essential knowledge,<br />

skills, <strong>and</strong> attitudes necessary to practice evidence-based care.<br />

CRE0501 – Evidence-Based Practice<br />

Units: 2<br />

In this course students will further explore evidence-based research, including research study development,<br />

preliminary grant writing skills, data extrapolation, <strong>and</strong> publishing completed study data. Students will<br />

become familiar with the peer review process in this course. Students will write case studies from their clinical<br />

experience <strong>for</strong> publication.<br />

CT0101 – Chiropractic Theories <strong>and</strong> <strong>Principles</strong><br />

Units: 2<br />

This course is devoted to the study of the microscopic structure <strong>and</strong> the fundamental functions of human<br />

cells, tissues, <strong>and</strong> organs of various systems of the human body. The course is primarily concerned with the<br />

relationship between microscopic structure <strong>and</strong> function, to provide a strong foundational knowledge base<br />

<strong>for</strong> macroscopic human physiology. Topics include the structure <strong>and</strong> functions of cell membranes <strong>and</strong><br />

organelles; the mechanisms of protein synthesis <strong>and</strong> cell division; the basics of genetics, epigenetics, <strong>and</strong> the<br />

control of gene expression; all types of membrane transport; <strong>and</strong> the generation, maintenance, <strong>and</strong> necessity<br />

of resting membrane potentials as a springboard into discussions of electrical potentials in future courses.<br />

Clinical applications are highlighted <strong>for</strong> each of these topics to demonstrate relevance to future clinical<br />

experiences.<br />
