AID1410 – Acupuncture Competency Examination ID<br />
Units: 0<br />
At the beginning of the second year, students will take a comprehensive multiple choice written exam<br />
covering the material taught in the first year of the program <strong>and</strong> a practical exam including taking a patient<br />
history, per<strong>for</strong>ming a physical exam, herb identification, tongue diagnosis, <strong>and</strong> other skills as determined by<br />
the Clinical Director <strong>and</strong> Dean.<br />
Prerequisites: Completion of all courses trimesters 1-3.<br />
Restrictions: DACM program only<br />
AID1710 – Acupuncture Competency Examination IID<br />
Units: 0<br />
At the beginning of the third year, students will take a comprehensive multiple choice written exam covering<br />
the material taught in the first two years of the program, <strong>and</strong> a practical exam including orthopedic exam,<br />
patient assessment <strong>and</strong> treatment, OSHA/CNT required techniques, <strong>for</strong>mula identification, <strong>and</strong> other skills as<br />
determined by the Clinical Director <strong>and</strong> Dean.<br />
Prerequisites: Completion of all courses trimesters 1-6, AID1410<br />
Restrictions: DACM program only<br />
AID1910 – Acupuncture Competency Examination IIID<br />
Units: 0<br />
Prior to graduation, students will take a comprehensive multiple choice written exam covering all the material<br />
taught in the program, <strong>and</strong> a practical exam including advanced patient assessment, diagnosis, <strong>and</strong> treatment<br />
plan, <strong>for</strong>mula prescription, microsystems, alternative treatment modalities, <strong>and</strong> other skills as determined by<br />
the Clinical Director <strong>and</strong> Dean.<br />
Prerequisites: Completion of all courses trimesters 1-8, AID1710<br />

APP101 – OM Theories I<br />
Units: 3<br />
This course is devoted to the study of the basic philosophy <strong>and</strong> foundations of Traditional Oriental Medicine.<br />
This course will introduce the concepts of Yin <strong>and</strong> Yang Theory, Five Elements Theory, Vital Substances<br />
(Essence, Qi, Blood <strong>and</strong> Body Fluids), Zang <strong>and</strong> Fu Organs Theory, Extraordinary Fu Organs, Causes of<br />
Diseases, <strong>and</strong> Pathogenesis of Yin <strong>and</strong> Yang Disharmony <strong>and</strong> the Mechanism of Qi. Course instruction includes<br />
lectures, discussions, <strong>and</strong> critical thinking.<br />

APP105 – Tai Ji/Qi Gong<br />
Units: 1<br />
This course is devoted to teach the short <strong>for</strong>m of Yang style Tai Ji Quan (Yang 8). Additionally, various<br />
breathing exercises <strong>and</strong> Qi Gong movements will be introduced. The purpose of this course <strong>and</strong> of these<br />
exercises is to teach students basic Tai Ji Quan principles <strong>and</strong> discuss the role of TaiJi Quan <strong>and</strong> Qi Gong in<br />
maintaining <strong>and</strong> promoting health <strong>for</strong> both the practitioner <strong>and</strong> the patient.<br />
