PACREM – Emergency Medicine<br />

This course is intended to provide students with a basic appreciation of health care delivery in Emergency<br />
Medicine. Students will work in an approved Emergency Medicine practice, <strong>and</strong> learn how to provide care <strong>for</strong><br />

PAJP201 – PA Jurisprudence<br />
Units: 1<br />
This course is designed to give the student a deeper underst<strong>and</strong>ing of the legal responsibilities associated<br />
with licensure as a Physician Assistant. Emphasis is placed on underst<strong>and</strong>ing the workings of the legal system,<br />
the laws affecting Physician Assistants, <strong>and</strong> the rules <strong>and</strong> regulations that govern the profession at the state<br />
level. The role of state licensing boards will be covered as well as the influence of professional associations.<br />
Topics covered will include the first PA program at Duke University to the current PA profession <strong>and</strong> its role in<br />
the Af<strong>for</strong>dable Care Act.<br />

PAP041 – Advanced Pharmacology<br />
Units: 2<br />
This lecture course covers the various drug groups which Healthcare professionals are most likely to<br />
encounter in their practice. Particular emphasis will be placed on the safe <strong>and</strong> effective use of<br />
pharmacotherapeutic agents in variety of clinical condition, including but not limited to, drug mechanism of<br />
action, dosing, indication use, side effects, interactions, therapeutic monitoring <strong>and</strong> response, polypharmacy,<br />
<strong>and</strong> appropriate sources of drug in<strong>for</strong>mation.<br />
