304III.ABILITY TO CREATE EFFECTIVE STRATEGIESTO SEARCH FOR AND FIND INFORMATIONAn effective search begins with a clear description of the information needed. Following this, thestudent devises search strategies, or methods to maximize the probability of successfully finding thedesired information. This ability requires the student to:1. Know the basic terminology describing the resources, organization and services of auniversity library.2. Understand that information is found in different places via different media, many of whichare outside the library.3. Apply knowledge and criteria to determine the best sources of information.4. Understand the logic and the structure of the principal sources of information for anacademic discipline, such as indexes, library catalogues and digital portals.5. Use appropriate terminology, knowledge and skills when consulting information resources.IV.ABILITY TO RETRIEVE INFORMATIONOnce the required information is identified and located, the student should have the skills andknowledge needed to obtain it; the student should be capable of forming a retrieval strategy whenworking with information systems, individuals or institutions. To do so, the student should be ableto:1. Determine relevant primary, secondary and tertiary sources.2.
