According to official figures provi<strong>de</strong>d by Turkish security sources and the Interior Ministry, the number of civilians killed this Jear increa~ed by ~00 percent compare to last year s statistics. Official data shows that in all of 1992 there were 1,920 PKK-related inci<strong>de</strong>nts throughout Turkey while this figure reached 3,901 in only the first II months of this year. Meanwhile, the civilian <strong>de</strong>ath toll was recor<strong>de</strong>d at 1,249 as of Nov. 30, 1993, representing an increase of about 100 percent from 1992's year-end figure of 6[8. During the same period in 1993, a total of 676 security officials, including tem- porary village guards, soldiers and policemen, were killed. Last year, this figure stood at 634. Official figures, provi<strong>de</strong>d in writin~ to the Turkish Daily News, revealed an mcrease in PKK casualties and injuries in .1993 with 1,552 terrorists killed and 121 woun<strong>de</strong>d, in contrast to last year's figures of 1,228 killed and 52 woun<strong>de</strong>d. . However, the number of alleged terrorists caught by security forces so far in 1993 was 7,640, lower than the 7,908 terrorists caught in 1992. While 853 civilians were woun<strong>de</strong>d in 1992, the figure rose to 1,389 in 1993. The number of woun<strong>de</strong>d security personnel also increased in this year's figures. During the first Il months of 1993, securit): forces confiscated 3,02810ng-range nfles, 1,221 guns, 2,164 bombs and 463,378 bull<strong>et</strong>s. In all of 1992, security forces had managed to seize 3,109longrange rifles, 1,290 guns, 2,368 bombs and 352,959 bull<strong>et</strong>s. ; AydJnhk claims regional countries will clamp down on Kurds in January Turkish Daily News ANKARA- The Turkish Daily Aydmhk claimed on Sunday that Turkey, along with Iran and Syria, was preparing to clamp down on separatist Kurdish movements on a s<strong>et</strong> date. The Aydmhk report said the joint operation would be launched on Jan. 15 and would targ<strong>et</strong> Kurdish secessionist movements in all of the three countries as well as in northern Iraq. It said the tripartite summit b<strong>et</strong>ween foreign ministers of Syria, Turkey and Iran would be held before the operatIOn was launched.
