PKK to get more vicious
.Öcalan and 'iimer circle' of three turn to more violence as

Formerly PKK commander in charge of all of Europe, he is said
to have pocketed large sums of money out of drug deals, He defected
from the organization and just when contacting the Turkish press
to talk, disappeared. Reports are that he has been abducted and taken
to Lebanon by the PKK for questioning.
CEMIL BAYIK: The closest person to Ocalan within the whole of the
.PKK is undoubtedly CemU BaYlk, nom de guerre Cuma (Friday). Ba-
Ylk was formerly in charge of all PKK activities in and from Iraq and
Iran. A PKK Central Committee member, BaYlk is ~.mong the founders
of the organization and has been together with Ocalan since the
mid 1980s. Currently, he too is based in Syria and Lebanon, but
holds the titlé of M.i1itaryc::ouncil com~ander.. ..

ANKARA- Recent operations
launched against the outlawed
Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK)
in Europe have delivered a serious
blow to- the financial resources
of this organization but
will unavoidably strengthen the
say of radical leadç,rs on its
chairman Abdullah Ocalan. In
the coming period, the PKK is
expected to fall more and more
under the influence of hard liners,
CUIIently, three people other
than Ocalan appear to have a ..
dominant influence on organizational
policies and two of them
areJ>ased in ~urope. ,
Ocalan's. nght handman IS
identified as Cemil BaYlk. Faysal
Dumlayici, who is known by
the code name of Kani YIimaz,
is in charge of all European activities:

.Since May 1979, when he
fled from Turkey to nearby Syria

Ocalan has appeared on the
scene of violence as the sole
leader of the PKK. He has a reputation
for intolerance to any opposition
and has reportedly so
far ordered the execution of over
25 of his comrades. -- on the

Öcalan's sole control over the
organization appears now to be

According to observers who

himself from Turkish and
regional realities mainly as a result
of living out of the area for
the past 14 years.

Meanwhile, over the past 14
years, the PKK. has expanded
both its numbers and its zones of
action, with the influence on the
organization of its grassroots

One claim is now that Ocalan
no longer fully controls his organization
but that the organization
is controlling him, and that
the movement is currently devouring
its leader. Security offiçjals
believe it is impossible for
Ocalan alone, living ID a self-imposed
exile in the Middle East,
to be in a position to organize
activities from Europe to Australia
and from America to the
Middle East. -
