2009 Comfortseating Award<br />
The best results of comfort, usability<br />
and sustainability<br />
The award to the best seating as to comfort, usability<br />
and sustainability was given on November 21 in the<br />
wonderful setting of Palazzo Kechler in Udine.<br />
The initiative was promoted by the Association L’Alfiere<br />
and ErgoCert, Certification Authority for Ergonomics,<br />
now a spin-off of Università di Udine, backed by Regione<br />
Friuli Venezia Giulia, Società Italiana di Ergonomia<br />
(FVG section), and ADI (FVG section).<br />
The accolade was the outcome of a study carried<br />
out at ErgoLab, the laboratory of ErgoCert based in<br />
Udine, that allowed to define, through instrument<br />
measures, a “Comfort index” for the scientific<br />
measurement of the seating comfort.<br />
The measurements were made on a sample of 23<br />
chairs, sent by some world leading companies<br />
operating in the market for office seating.<br />
On the basis of the results obtained from the<br />
study and evaluation of the other benchmarks like<br />
usability of controls, novel use features and<br />
environmental sustainability, the Association<br />
L’Alfiere and ErgoCert selected the chair “Liberty”<br />
by HumanScale as the product better expressing the<br />
mix of all these factors, and gave it 2009 Comfort<br />
Seating Award. ■<br />
