NEWS BROUGHT TO YOU BY EDITORIAL Richard Barnes Editor-In-Chief IFA: MEETING THE DEMANDS OF TOMORROW’S SUPPLY CHAIN @ IFA GLOBAL MARKETS As globalisation is on the rise, opportunities arise for faster development and production, while at the same time, the industry faces greater time and cost pressures. According to the German industry association ZVEI, “The flexible use of global manufacturing capacities, combined with a focus on core competences, is key to achieving a sustained competitive advantage in today’s business environment. However, this capability requires increasingly complex supplier networks, which must be controlled and optimised to provide reliable, fast and flexible services.” FROM NICHE TO NECESSITY Deutsche TV-Plattform offers a glimpse into the HDR future of home cinema Hence, the arrival of IFA Global Markets, a new “trade only” supply chain event that was added to the IFA portfolio in 2016 and which takes place this year from September 8 to 11, at Station Berlin near Potsdamerplatz. For all those in search of business partners, IFA Global Markets can help: IFA Meet & Match @ Global Markets is bringing visitors and exhibitors together for business talks. Thought leadership is also at the heart of this event, thanks to “Expert Talks”, featuring international buyers who regularly work together with private labels as well as OEM and ODM manufacturers from around the world. Moderated by Bob Snyder, editor-in-chief of Channel Media Europe, these talks provide an insight into the industry’s latest developments, opportunities and challenges. One of this year’s speakers, CMF Design Forecaster Anouk Groen, said: “Here walk the product-planners, marketers, and designers who influence future products in terms of concept, style and the production process. Looking at products from different industries (not just competitors) gives information and justification for future choices, but more importantly, inspiration” IFA NEXT reveals the latest techniques and standards that are revolutionising the tech market. Deutsche TV-Plattform, a merger of German household names in TV and home cinema — and, as announced at IFA, Google — is showcasing its upcoming industry touchstones for visitors to experience the next dimension of sound and vision. One of these is 8K Ultra HD, the latest in image resolution. Deutsche TV- Plattform’s IFA booth features its own living room where visitors can see the cinematic distinction of 8K for themselves, not forgetting the HDR 10, HDR 10+, and Dolby Vision versions. Meanwhile, over in the IFA booth’s curtained-off home cinema, visitors can immerse themselves into a “3D sound” experience, equipped with an integrated HFR for extra sharp picture and HDMI 2.1 for plenty of bandwidth. Deutsche TV-Plattform is also demonstrating its take on the the HbbTVbased 360° viewing experience, followed by a glimpse into VVC, which is set to replace HEVC through its 50% optimised video compression performance. As the US-based VoD provider Roku, Inc. expands its TV licencing program into Europe, it is entering the German market via Deutsche TV-Plattform to demonstrate how streaming technology plays an increasingly involved role in shaping home cinema, such as simply connecting the smart TV to the internet to access feature films and series Hall 26 Stand 203 IFA International is a CLEVERDIS Publication • 65 avenue Jules Cantini - Tour Méditerranée – 13006 Marseille, France • Tel: + 33 442 77 46 00 • SARL capitalised at €155,750 • VAT FR 95413604471 • RCS Marseille 413 604 471 • info@cleverdis.com • www.cleverdis.com • During IFA: Press Center – Hall 6.3 – Room 201• info@ifa-international.org • www.ifa-international.org • Publisher: Gérard Lefebvre • Publishing Director: Jean-Guy Bienfait • Managing Director: Jean-François Pieri • Project Manager: Bettina Badon • Editor-in-Chief: Richard Barnes • Head of Editorial team: John Falchetto • Editorial team: Stuart Braun, Neil Churchman, Neil Cole, Andy Fry, Simon King, Rosamund Mather, Julian Newby, Brendan O’Shea, Bob Snyder • Photos: Tom Maelsa • Art Director: Hélène Beunat • Design & Page Setting: Guillaume Kaercher, Guillaume Vinrich • Distribution Manager: Jasdeep Singh • With the participation of: Siyu Geng, Benjamin Klene, Luciana Lodolo, Dominic Streuber • To contact them : first name.last name@ifa-international.org • Printing: Möller Druck und Verlag GmbH, Ahrensfelde OT Blumberg, Germany • Cover: © Mozilla Foundation © CLEVERDIS 2019 - Registration of Copyright September 2019 Information presented in this publication is purely indicative in order to illustrate subjects contained therein.
