He demonstrates, that above mentioned position was closely connected withhis family´s origin. The Dumbas had come to Vienna just after Napoleonic Wars from theGreek part of Macedonia. His ancestors were engaged in foreign trade between Turkey andAustria-Hungary. They became very rich and they had indispensable political influence.Author demonstrates, how fundamental was this fact to the Constantin Dumba´s activities inthe foreign service. In the second part of this article author deals with Dumba´s acting asAmbassador to the United States. He analyzes Dumba´s vain attempts positively influencerelations between the United States and Austria-Hungary and enforce the United States toobserve a strict neutrality in the „Great War“. During the spring 1915 Dumba recognized thatofficial diplomatic methods are not sufficient to achieve these objectives and thereafter hesupported very risky subversive actions, which should led to reduction of American suppliesof war material to the Entente. The author analyzes negative consequences of this by theAustro-Hungarian authorities authorized policy to the relations between both states.(Translation by author)80
