engl. / During the summer of 2017 the guests at
Sennhütte in St. Anton were able to admire an
incredible 107,126 edelweiss flowers. Sounds
like a record! And indeed: the sea of edelweiss
flowers in Tyrol was almost twice as big as the
record holder in Turkey.
It all started with 1,600 edelweiss plants that Markus Senn
gave to his wife, Tanja. “I had to plant them by myself,
though”, the wild herb specialist adds with a smile. The
unique location of flower-shaped bed of edelweiss right next
to Sennhütte at an altitude of 1,500 metres played its part in
increasing the initial 20,000 flowers to an amazing 107,126.

On August 5, 2017 40 independent counters determined the
number of flowers on the plants – and at halftime it was
already clear that the record would definitely fall! Shortly
