Investments bring upturn<br />
Because of its geographic position, the weather, expensive<br />
avalanche prevention measures, and low capacity the newly<br />
founded <strong>St</strong>uben tourism agency made further investments.<br />
With the construction of the detachable three-person chair lift<br />
Valfagehrbahn, the Albona was connected with the ski area of<br />
<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Anton</strong> in 1980 and the two Albona chair lift sections were<br />
upgraded to a double chair lift at the beginning of the 1980s, too.<br />
Into the future!<br />
In the 21st century the skiing<br />
area <strong>Arlberg</strong> saw an enormous<br />
boom. As of 2016 and<br />
thanks to the new Flexenbahn<br />
there now is a connection<br />
between Zürs and<br />
<strong>St</strong>uben/Rauz for the first<br />
time, aside from that the<br />
new Albonabahn now<br />
transports up to 2,000<br />
people up to the ridge each<br />
hour which is particularly<br />
popular in spring. The reason: the shady north slopes provide<br />
perfect conditions for freeriders – in the mornings they get to<br />
leave their traces in the best powder and in the afternoons the<br />
firn-slopes are just perfect!<br />

Even today – 60 years later – Albona has preserved its<br />
reputation as a popular skiing area and it is now part of<br />
Austria’s largest connected skiing area.<br />
