L.L. You just mentioned it: in 2009 you<br />

bec<strong>am</strong>e the owner of the historic Après Ski<br />

Bar Krazy Kanguruh in <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Anton</strong>. How did<br />

you end up in this industry?<br />

M.M. It was always important to me to<br />

build up a second mainstay next to my active<br />

skiing career – it might as well have been a<br />

B&B or a restaurant. The Krazy Kanguruh<br />

simply happened and I immediately liked<br />

the bar. Since I took over the bar quite a few<br />

things have changed. There now is a great<br />

sun terrace, and the atmosphere simply is<br />

unique. Our dishes are always good and<br />

freshly made. As an athlete the quality of the<br />

food is very important to me. We are quite<br />

international, our guests come from all over<br />

the world and the crowd is quite diverse.<br />

That’s why après ski at Krazy Kanguruh is so<br />

much fun!<br />

L.L. Aside from skiing you are passionate<br />

about horses. What does your time with<br />

them mean to you? Can you compare the<br />

feeling on skis to that on horseback?<br />

M.M. The time with the horses is very relaxing. Apart from<br />

that we have been quite successful with our horses all over<br />

Europe, which his rewarding. The feeling on skis and on horseback<br />

is definitely comparable: you need to be patient and<br />

critically reflect your own actions in order to get better.<br />

L.L. Your crowned your career with two World Ch<strong>am</strong>pionship<br />

titles and 14 World Cup wins. Do you miss the competitions<br />

and the thrill sometimes?<br />

M.M. There are situations where I miss the ski circus sometimes,<br />

but not that often, really. Especially when I watch a<br />

race I sometimes become nostalgic. But then I think about how<br />

much work this performance requires. And then I realise<br />

how lucky I <strong>am</strong> to be where I <strong>am</strong> right now.
