Australians take day trips and come to the ski resorts by bus<br />
or car from Sydney or Melbourne on Friday after the office.<br />
They drive all night, race down the slopes all day Saturday,<br />
and until the early afternoon on Sunday, and then they head<br />
right back to the urban areas.<br />

L.L. You continued living abroad,<br />
your next stop was Sun Valley. The<br />
spot where the US high-society would<br />
meet up for winter sports in the 1970s<br />
– Austrian skiing instructors were<br />
quite popular with celebrities. What<br />
are your most fond memories from all<br />
those years ago?<br />
F.K. What is really beautiful is that<br />
I have kept in contact with people for<br />
45 years. I’m a bit proud of it, actually,<br />
because many people I knew back<br />
then have become friends, so I went<br />
beyond just being a skiing instructor.<br />
There were other ski instructors from<br />
the <strong>Arlberg</strong> who went to Sun Valley<br />
before me, pioneers like Friedl Pfeifer,<br />
Hannes Schneider, Otto <strong>La</strong>ng, or Herbert<br />
Jochum. Sun Valley was a hotspot<br />
for Hollywood celebrities and they<br />
wanted Austrian skiing instructors, of<br />
course. We had great experiences and<br />
parties together. Annual invites from<br />
US-celebrities to their athletic “skimeeting”<br />
confirm my yearlong task as<br />
<strong>am</strong>bassador to the <strong>Arlberg</strong>.<br />

that’s what the <strong>Arlberg</strong> is known for.<br />
Both the <strong>Arlberg</strong> and Sun Valley still attract an athletic crowd<br />
today and the slopes are comparable too, as far as the levels<br />
of difficulty are concerned. In both places there really is a<br />
strong focus on skiing.<br />
