car intended only for operation in winter – Galzigbahn
– is inaugurated in St. Anton. It formed
the basis for a winter sports destination that is
known all over the world and that still attracts
winter sports fans from near and afar.
1937 – the first cable car ride up into airy heights
The first Galzigbahn had to overcome 770 altitude metres on
its way from St. Anton to the Galzig, each cable car had capacity
for 30 people. The pupils of Hannes Schneider’s skiing school
were quite enthusiastic: thanks to the new cable car they no
longer had to make the tiring hike up the mountain, instead
they were able to float up comfortably.
