L.L. Upon your return from the US in the 1980s you founded<br />
your own skiing school in <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Anton</strong>. Today, at over 70<br />
years of age, you are a self-employed skiing instructor. Did<br />
you ever think about quitting your skis?<br />
F.K. <strong>No</strong>, I’ll keep skiing until I can’t do it any longer – and<br />
the s<strong>am</strong>e goes for teaching. The combination of nature and<br />
sport is my elixir of life.<br />
L.L. The <strong>Arlberg</strong> has many skiing instructors. What would<br />
you say makes a really good teacher or guide?<br />
F.K. Aside from the fact that they have to be excellent skiers<br />
they must also know nature very well. That means knowing<br />
about avalanches and snow conditions. Aside from that they<br />
must be able to tell which slope is best at which times – no<br />
matter if there are powder or firn conditions. It’s important<br />
that they communicate their inside knowledge on the place<br />
via the locals. Communication between skiing instructor and<br />
guest also is very important and should go beyond skiing.<br />
