2006 – impressive new cable car technology<br />

In 2006 c<strong>am</strong>e an all-new cable-car innovation: the company<br />

Doppelmayr replaced the old Galzigbahn with a state-of-the-art<br />

Funitel cable car with newly developed giant-wheel technology.<br />

For the first time the wheels with a di<strong>am</strong>eter of 9.3 metres<br />

enabled made it possible to access the cars at ground level.<br />

The construction’s impressive design <strong>am</strong>azed people all over<br />

the world: the new cable car received the Chicago Athenaeum<br />

Museum of Architecture & Design’s architecture award.<br />

The best thing about it: the 28 cars fit 24 people each which<br />

means that 2,000 passengers can be transported up to Galzig<br />

per hour – long waiting times are a thing of the past.<br />

2017 – 80 years of Galzigbahn<br />

2017 was a year to celebrate: Galzigbahn sees its 80th anniversary.<br />

Together with the foundation of Skiclub <strong>Arlberg</strong> and<br />

Austria’s first skiing school, Galzigbahn played an important<br />

role in establishing tourism in <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Anton</strong>. Each year the cable<br />

car company makes investments that increase safety and<br />

comfort for winter sports fans. All these facets make the <strong>Arlberg</strong><br />

village one of the highlights of today’s tourism landscape in<br />
