6. The o<strong>the</strong>r essential elements of <strong>Mao</strong> Zedong Thought are supposedly<br />

to include <strong>the</strong> mass line <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> strategy of <strong>the</strong> united front. During<br />

<strong>the</strong> early years of <strong>the</strong> Chinese communist revolution, <strong>Mao</strong> <strong>and</strong> his<br />

followers were br<strong>and</strong>ed as empiricists who had no underst<strong>and</strong>ing of<br />

Marxist <strong>the</strong>ory. <strong>Mao</strong>’s tactic to fight <strong>the</strong>se so-called jiaotiao zhuyizhe<br />

(dogmatists) was to argue that what was right <strong>and</strong> wrong was decided<br />

not by what was said in <strong>the</strong> canon but by revolutionary practice.<br />
