areas, mines, explosive remnants of war, booby-traps and other devices in the area in<br />

which the mission is performing its functions,<br />

16. Their determination to urge States which do not already do so to conduct<br />

reviews to determine whether any new weapon, means or methods of warfare would<br />

be prohibited under international humanitarian law or other rules of international law<br />

applicable to them.<br />

<strong>II</strong><br />

Recognising that the important principles and provisions contained in this Final<br />

Declaration can also serve as a basis for further strengthening the Convention and its<br />

annexed Protocols and express their determination to implement them,<br />

AND TAKE THE FOLLOWING DECISIONS:<br />

Decision 1<br />

Decide to convene an open-ended meeting of experts, under the overall<br />

responsibility of the Chairperson-designate of the 2012 Meeting of the High<br />

Contracting <strong>Part</strong>ies to the Convention, of three days in 2012 to discuss further the<br />

implementation of international humanitarian law with regard to mines other<br />

than anti-personnel mines, and to submit a report to the 2012 Meeting of the High<br />

Contracting <strong>Part</strong>ies to the Convention.<br />

Decision 2<br />

Decide to commit to “An Accelerated Plan of Action on Universalization<br />

of the Convention and its annexed Protocols” as contained in Annex I of the Final<br />

Declaration.<br />

Decision 3<br />

Decide to continue the Sponsorship Programme and urge it to explore all options<br />

to promote the universalization and implementation of the Convention and its annexed<br />

Protocols in accordance with the recommendations contained in Annex <strong>II</strong> of the Final<br />

Declaration.<br />

Decision 4<br />

Decide to enhance the implementation of the Compliance Mechanism for the<br />

Convention and its annexed Protocols, which was agreed to at the Third Review<br />

Conference and the Meeting of the High Contracting <strong>Part</strong>ies to the Convention in 2007<br />

in accordance with the recommendations as contained in Annex <strong>II</strong>I.<br />

Decision 5<br />

1. In accordance with the relevant decisions taken by the Thirteenth Annual<br />

Conference of the High Contracting <strong>Part</strong>ies to Amended Protocol <strong>II</strong> and the Fifth<br />

Conference of the High Contracting <strong>Part</strong>ies to Protocol V decide to organize in 2012<br />

the following CCW related activities:<br />

(i) Group of Experts of the High Contracting <strong>Part</strong>ies to Amended Protocol <strong>II</strong><br />

on 23 and 24 April 2012;
