of the Kinshasa Convention, adopted on 30 April 2010, at the thirtieth ministerial<br />

meeting of the Standing Advisory Committee, held in Kinshasa in April 2010.<br />

The Assembly welcomed the adoption by the States members of the Standing<br />

Advisory Committee of the Sao Tome Declaration on a Central African Common<br />

Position on the Arms Trade Treaty, and the signing of the Kinshasa Convention by<br />

all eleven States members of the Standing Advisory Committee, and appealed to<br />

them to ratify the Convention in a timely manner in order to facilitate its early entry<br />

into force and implementation. It requested the United Nations Regional Office<br />

for Central Africa, in collaboration with the United Nations Regional Centre for<br />

Peace and Disarmament in Africa, to facilitate the efforts undertaken by the States<br />

members of the Standing Advisory Committee, in particular for their execution<br />

of the Implementation Plan for the Kinshasa Convention. The Assembly urged<br />

the States members of the Standing Advisory Committee to strengthen the gender<br />

component of the various meetings of the Committee relating to disarmament and<br />

international security.<br />

66/56. United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and<br />

Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific<br />

In this annual resolution, the General<br />

Assembly once again expressed its satisfaction<br />

for the activities carried out in the past year by<br />

the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and<br />

Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific, and invited<br />

all States of the region to continue to support the<br />

activities of the Centre, including by continuing<br />

to take part in them, where possible, and by proposing items for inclusion in the<br />

programme of activities of the Centre, in order to contribute to the implementation of<br />

measures for peace and disarmament.<br />

Disarmament in Africa<br />

By this resolution, which was last introduced<br />

in 2009, the General Assembly welcomed the<br />

continental dimension of the activities of the<br />

United Nations Regional Centre for Peace<br />

and Disarmament in Africa in response to the<br />

evolving needs of African Member States in the<br />

areas of disarmament, peace and security. It also<br />

welcomed the undertaking by the Regional Centre<br />

to provide capacity-building, technical assistance<br />

programmes and advisory services to the African<br />

Union Commission and subregional organizations on the control of small arms and<br />

light weapons, as well as the arms trade treaty and weapons of mass destruction–<br />

related issues. The Assembly further welcomed the contribution of the Regional<br />

Centre to continental disarmament, peace and security, in particular its assistance to<br />

the African Union Commission and to the African Commission on Nuclear Energy.
