Tiger and I breakfast at our place on Shoreditch High Street
then head north up Kingsland Road. We pass the Geffrye
Museum, one of my favourite Hackney landmarks with a garden
where he chases pigeons. At Regent’s Canal we break west
towards King’s Cross but rarely get further than Islington. Apart
from the crazed cyclists, it’s soothing, although Tiger falls into
the water so often I wonder whether it’s on purpose. With my
ex-girlfriend’s whippet the route took 20 minutes, but Tiger
lumbers along and it’s half an hour before we reach the barge of
my rock-and-roller friend John the Boat. We barbecue here,
before heading to the wonderful Duke of Cambridge, which
serves organic ale and porter. Finally we hit the Wenlock Arms
by the City Road Basin, which is an undiscovered gem. On Friday
evenings there’s a proper three-piece jazz band with musicians
in their sixties and seventies. A few of my favourite stouts here,
then it’s time for the short but shaky walk home. Clodagh Kinsella

Nous passons le Musée Geffrye, l’un de mes lieux préféré
à Hackney avec un jardin où il pourchasse les pigeons. À
Regents Canal, nous piquons vers l’ouest, mais nous dépassons
rarement Islington. À part les cyclistes enragés, c’est apaisant.
Mais Tiger tombe si souvent dans l’eau que je me demande
s’il ne fait pas exprès. Avec le lévrier anglais de mon ex-petite
amie le chemin prenait 20 minutes, mais Tiger a un rythme
tout à lui et il nous faut une demi-heure avant d’arriver au
bateau de mon copain rock n’ roll John the Boat. Nous y faisons
un barbecue avant d’aller au merveilleux Duke of Cambridge
qui sert de la bière bio. Finalement, nous fi nissons au Wenlock
Arms près du Bassin du City Road, un petit bijou méconnu.
Le vendredi soir, il y a un trio de jazz. Après avoir bu quelques
bières, je rentre au bercail d’un pas chancelant. »
