4. <strong>IN</strong>STALL THRUST WASHERS<br />

(a) Coat the two thrust washers with petroleum jelly.<br />

(b) Align the tab of the washers with the hollow of the<br />

carrier.<br />

REPLACEMENT OF R<strong>IN</strong>G GEAR FLANGE<br />

1. REMOVE R<strong>IN</strong>G GEAR FLANGE<br />

(a) Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring.<br />

(b) Remove the flange from the ring gear.<br />

2. <strong>IN</strong>STALL R<strong>IN</strong>G GEAR FLANGE<br />

(a) Position the flange into the ring gear.<br />

(b) Using a screwdriver, install the snap ring.<br />

MEASURE PLANETARY P<strong>IN</strong>ION GEAR THRUST<br />

CLEARANCE<br />

Using a feeler gauge, measure the planetary pinion<br />

gear thrust clearance.<br />

Standard clearance: 0.2 - 0.5 mm<br />

(0.008 - 0.020 in.)<br />

Maximum clearance: 0.5 mm (0.020 in.)<br />

If the clearance is greater than maximum, replace the<br />

planetary gear assembly.
