- three circular steel-lined Pressure Shafts, each of 4.9 m. dia. and 633 m. long bifurcating
near the Power House to feed six generating units.
- an underground Power House with a cavern size of 222 m. x 20 m. x 49 m. having six
Francis Units of 250 MW each to utilise a design discharge of 405 cusecs and design
head of 425 m.
- a 10.15 m. dia. and 982 m. long Tail Race Tunnel to discharge the water back into the
river Satluj.
11.8.3 PROJECT BENFITS:
Besides the social and economical upliftment of the persons in its vicinity, on
commissioning the 1500 MW NJHEP will generate 6700 MUs of the electrical energy
in a 90% dependable year and 7447 MU in an average year, besides providing 1500
MW of valuable peaking power to the Northern Grid.
11.8.4 Utilisation of Resources during 1997-98
Against the Revised Estimates of Rs.887 crores for the year 1997-98, expenditure
incurred during the year was Rs.672 crores. Out of total World Bank Loan of Rs.1573
crores (US $ 437 Million), NJPC has utilised Rs.921 crores (US $ 258 Million). During
the year, a sum of Rs.171 crores has been utilised, against a target of Rs.240 crores.
11.8.5 PROJECT EXECUTION STATUS:
HIGHLIGHTS: PROJECT EXECUTION
- Daylighting in the HRT between Wadhal D/S - Manglad U/S and Manglad D/S -
Rattanpur U/S.
- Widening of Pressure Shafts I to III completed
- Satluj river diverted through the diversion tunnel.
- Dental concreting in the Dam area commenced in January, 1998.
- Out of 27.40 km. of the HRT, excavation (Heading) of 23.80 km. completed upto end
of January, 1998.
- Erection of steel liners in the HRT at Manglad D/S commenced in March, 1997.
- Excavation of power house cavern completed in December, 1996
- Excavation of TRT completed in February, 1997.
- Erection of steel liners in top horizontal portion of the pressure shaft No.2 & 3 completed
in February, 1997.
- Tail Race Tunnel concrete lining commenced in March, 1997.
- Concreting of draft tubes for units I to IV completed.
- Concrete lining of Lower Expansion Gallery of Surge Shaft was completed during
July, 1997.
