FINANCIAL STATUS
The Cumulative Expenditure incurred upto March 1998 is Rs. 2700.43 crore which is
about 62% of the approved estimates of the project, i.e., Rs.4337.95 crore.
11.8.6 Environment, Rehabilitation & Resettlement (E/R&R)
The Project Information Centre at Jhakri is functioning well. Compensatory afforestation
in non-forest land has been completed. So far, 52 nos. families have been identified as landless
families who have been suitably compensated by way of allotment of alternate agricultural
land in the project vicinity. Besides 43 persons have been given employment belonging to
these families. The families who have been rendered houseless due to coming up of the project
have been suitably compensated by way of allotment of constructed houses/cash compensation.
NJPC’s policy statement on Environment, Rehabilitation and Resettlement has been prepared
in association with its Advisors (E/R&R) and has been approved by the Board of Directors.
11.9 DAMODAR VALLEY CORPORATION (DVC)
11.9.1 The Damodar Valley Corporation was established on 7th July, 1948 by an Act of the Parliament.
The Corporation has a full-time Chairman and two part-time Members. The part-time Members
represent the States of Bihar and West Bengal. The objectives of the Corporation
include the promotion and operation of the schemes for irrigation, transmission and
distribution of energy, both hydro-electric and thermal, the promotion and operation
of schemes for flood control in the Damodar river and its tributaries and
