upgrade the technology. Active inter-action and liaison with the Bureau of Indian
Standards are being maintained through participation in and deliberation of various
technological committees involved with the formation and revision of guidelines for
various structures/elements of hydro power projects etc. As part of its efforts in the
field of Research & Development a separate division “Research Development” has
been created to look after the problems relating to silt at various operational projects
and import substitution of spares.
A post construction Environmental Impact Assessment has been conducted in Chamera
stage - I project through Satellite Remote Sensing Data processing and through
Geographical Information system.
11.2.6 CONSULTANCY SERVICES
With a view to encash the vast experience and expertise gained by the corporation over
the last 20 years, in the investigation, design, construction and operation of Hydro
Power Projects, the Corporation has set up a Consultancy wing. During the year 1997-
98 the Corporation has got fresh consultancy assignments from Northern Railway,
THDC, NJPC, NCB, KSEB APSEB, CWC and JKPDCC. Negotiations are in the
pipeline with Border Roads Organisation (BRO), West Bengal Power Development
Corporation Ltd. (WBPDCL) and Shree Maheshwar Power Corporation. The
consultancy work is gaining more and more importance and NHPC is also negotiating
with foreign companies for Tuirial H.E.Project, Mizoram and some other projects in
Nepal and Bhutan. The corporation is also diversifying towards small hydro sector and
proposal has been submitted to Government on this account.
11.2.7 CONSERVATION OF ENERGY
NHPC is taking active part in the Energy Conservation programme of the Government
and has set up an In house committee which reviews the efforts taken by the corporation
for Energy Conservation activities from time to time.
11.2.8 PROJECT INVESTIGATION
N.H.P.C. completed investigation of a good number of hydro-power projects including
Dulhasti, Koel Karo, Tanakpur, Chamera, Teesta (stage-V), Dhaleshwari, different stages
of Dhauliganga, Goriganga and Kishanganga etc., in the central sector, and submitted
feasibility/detail project report. Identification of few more such project investigation
schemes are in process.
