1. PUBLIC SECTOR UNDERTAKINGS:
i) National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), New Delhi;
ii) National Hydro-electric Power Corporation (NHPC), Faridabad;
iii) North-Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO), Shillong;
iv) Power Finance Corporation (PFC), New Delhi,
v) Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL), New Delhi, and
vi) Rural Electrification Corporation (REC), New Delhi;
2. JOINT VENTURE CORPORATIONS:
i) Nathpa Jhakri Power Corporation (NJPC), Shimla and
ii) Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC), Noida (UP)
3. STATUTORY BODIES:
i) Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), Calcutta, and
ii) Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), Chandigarh.
A brief description of these corporations and their activities are indicated in the
succeeding paras:
11.1. NATIONAL THERMAL POWER CORPORATION LIMITED (NTPC):
11.1.1 NTPC was set up in 1975 as a Central Sector generating company for the development of
thermal power. The corporation is at present engaged in operating/setting up thirteen (13)
thermal power projects and six (6) gas based power projects. Out of the total approved
capacity of 20465 MW, NTPC has already commissioned 16795 MW and has planned a
capacity addition of 115 MW during 1998-99. The details of generating capacity of 16795
MW already commissioned and under operation is as under:
