Dec. 4, 1799, Fanny Holroyd, issue, one child ; 2d, Oct.<br />

24, 1805, Sally W. (b. Sept. 21, 1781), dau. of Capt.<br />

Israel <strong>and</strong> Mercy (Waterman) Arnold, issue, ten children.<br />

Sally W. Arnold was a direct descendant of Roger Williams, the<br />

founder of Providence, her pedigree from him being as follows :<br />

i. Roger Williams.<br />

ii. Mercy Williams m. Resolved Waterman,<br />

iii. John Waterman m. Anne Olney.<br />

iv. Benoni Waterman m. Sarah Wicks.<br />

v. John Waterman m. Sarah Potter,<br />

vi. Mercy Waterman m. Capt. Israel Arnold,<br />

vii. Sally Waterman Arnold m. Capt. Oliver <strong>Earle</strong>.<br />

<strong>The</strong>y settled on South Main street, Providence, in the house, now<br />

No. 222, still occupied by <strong>his</strong> daughter, Miss Julia <strong>Earle</strong>, <strong>and</strong> <strong>his</strong><br />

gr<strong>and</strong>daughter, Mrs. Cyrus Taft. Oliver died July 5, 1824. He<br />

bore the title of Captain, but wherefore we are not informed.<br />

<strong>The</strong> children of Oliver <strong>Earle</strong> were :<br />

William <strong>Earle</strong> [574-3] attended the schools of Providence until he<br />

was of age, when he entered the counting-room of William R.<br />

Bowers & Co. In 1837 t<strong>his</strong> company failed, <strong>and</strong> William <strong>Earle</strong><br />

bought the establishment <strong>and</strong> took Capt. Lloyd Bowers as partner,
