Slade, of Swanzey, <strong>and</strong> lives in Dighton, Mass.<br />

He spent <strong>his</strong> early life at the parental homestead. At the age of<br />

21 years he went to Rochester, Mass., where he worked three years.<br />

In 1837, he bought a farm in Dighton, removed to it in 1S3S, <strong>and</strong><br />

still remains upon it. He has always since its formation been a firm<br />

supporter of the republican partv, <strong>and</strong> an active participant in the<br />

affairs of <strong>his</strong> adopted town. In 1845, he was elected as one of the<br />

Assessors, <strong>and</strong> was continued in that office several years. He was<br />

one of the Selectmen from 1S57 to 1S64, inclusive, with the single<br />

exception of the year 1862 ; Collector of Taxes <strong>and</strong> Treasurer in<br />

1869, 1S70 <strong>and</strong> 1S74; <strong>and</strong> Collector of Taxes from 1882 to 18S6,<br />

inclusive, excepting the year 1SS4.<br />
