[2]. Seth Clark Earl ( Josefh, Joseph), son of Joseph<br />

<strong>and</strong> Elizabeth (Coleman) Earl, b. April 15, 1809, in<br />

Nantucket, Mass. ; m. Nov. 9, 1831, Deborah (b. Sept.<br />

21, 1810, in Charleston, S. C), dau. of Gurdon <strong>and</strong><br />

Elizabeth (Rudd) Lothrop, of Canajoharie, N. Y. <strong>The</strong>y<br />

have lived successively in Auburn, N. Y., Nashville,<br />

Tenn., <strong>and</strong> Ottawa, N. Y. , where they were when the<br />

Civil war began. He <strong>and</strong> <strong>his</strong> son Charles M. were<br />

together in business <strong>and</strong> dealt in paint, oil, glass, &c.<br />

He volunteered <strong>his</strong> services, <strong>and</strong> as colonel of volunteers<br />

did good service. He was killed at the battle of Jackson,<br />

Miss., July 12, 1863.<br />
