Slade, of Swanzey, Mass. ; d. June 18, 1817.<br />

He resided upon the farm given him by <strong>his</strong> father, the house<br />

having been in the valley, about one-fourth of a mile east of the<br />

original <strong>Ralph</strong> <strong>Earle</strong> homestead. His farm is now in part over-<br />

flowed by the water of the Lynde reservoir, at its northern extremity.<br />

<strong>The</strong> old house was taken down <strong>and</strong> a new one erected about the year<br />

1858. _<br />

Antipas died while absent, on a visit, <strong>and</strong> was interred in the<br />

Friends' cemetery, Smithfield, R. I., about one mile southerly from<br />

Woonsocket. He was a man of blameless life <strong>and</strong> conduct, <strong>and</strong> of<br />

high moral principles, a sincere believer in the doctrines of the<br />

Quakers, <strong>and</strong> a rigid observer of their testimonies <strong>and</strong> peculiarities.<br />

<strong>The</strong> children of Antipas <strong>and</strong> Mercy (Slade) <strong>Earle</strong> were :<br />

Of Jonathan [414-3], Gov. Washburn in <strong>his</strong> History of Leicester,<br />

says, "He was an extensive card manufacturer; owned the place<br />

on Mt. Pleasant, Leicester, where N. P. Denny, Esq., afterward<br />

lived, <strong>and</strong> died unmarried ; a man of active enterprise <strong>and</strong> success in<br />

business."<br />

He was a member of the board of Selectmen in 1807 <strong>and</strong> 180S.
