2d, Matilda (Butterworth) Chace, widow of Israel Chace,<br />

of Worcester, Mass. ; issue, two children ; d. July, 1814,<br />

• in Leicester. <strong>The</strong> children, with the exception of the<br />

youngest, b. in Worcester, were born in Paxton. His<br />

widow, Matilda, d. Nov. 10, 1843, in Worcester, at the<br />

house of her son, the late Anthony Chase, who for many<br />

years was the Treasurer of Worcester County.<br />

Clark was one of Capt. Phinehas Moore's company of minutemen<br />

who marched from Paxton to Cambridge on the alarm of the<br />

19th of April, 1775.<br />

*T<strong>his</strong> <strong>Ralph</strong>, like <strong>his</strong> father, was an artist. He was in London improving<br />

himself in the art of painting in 1809 <strong>and</strong> 1S10. After <strong>his</strong> return to America<br />

he married a neice of Gen. Andrew Jackson ; <strong>and</strong>, during a considerable part<br />

of the presidency of the latter, he (<strong>Ralph</strong>) was one of the President's house-<br />

hold in Washington. He painted a full-length picture of Jackson, which, at<br />

the time, was highly commended. He died in New Orleans. His wife lived<br />

but a short time after marriage, <strong>and</strong> died without issue.<br />
