His success in the management of machine business, which is done<br />

entirely upon a credit basis, is largely due to the fact of <strong>his</strong> having<br />

employed most of <strong>his</strong> spare moments, since starting for himself, in<br />

reading law.<br />

In the course of the past year, 1886-87, he has invented, <strong>and</strong><br />

secured letters patent therefor from the United States, an automatic<br />

grain weigher <strong>and</strong> self-register, <strong>and</strong> an automatic b<strong>and</strong>-cutter <strong>and</strong><br />

self-feeder for threshing machines. <strong>The</strong>se two devices make a saving<br />

of the labor of from four to six men, in operating each machine to<br />

which they are attached.<br />

<strong>The</strong> only child of Harry L. <strong>and</strong> Ella Z. (Pratt) <strong>Earle</strong> was :<br />

removed, in 1881, to Anoka, Minn. Mr. Field is an<br />

engineer.<br />

Ohio. <strong>The</strong>y lived in Wisconsin, Missouri, <strong>and</strong> Ohio,<br />

<strong>and</strong> removed, in Dec, 1881, to McCook, Red Willow<br />

Co., Neb., where Mr. Gale is a farmer.<br />
