Co., N. Y. She removed in Dec, 1845, to Madison,<br />

Wis., <strong>and</strong> d. July 8, i860.<br />

<strong>The</strong>ir children were :<br />

Le Sueur. Minn.<br />

"Nancy Bushnell has led a pioneer life; <strong>and</strong> we venture to say<br />

that there is not a woman in America now living, who has braved<br />

more of peril <strong>and</strong> hardships than she. Since 1832, she <strong>and</strong> her husb<strong>and</strong>,<br />

Bushnell, have lived in the outposts of civilization. Ohio first<br />

became their new home. But so soon as clearings were made, <strong>and</strong><br />

roads opened up, they pushed farther west, <strong>and</strong> camped upon the<br />

banks of Rock River, in Wisconsin. From there they advanced<br />

westerly to Fountain Prairie, near Columbus, Wisconsin, where they<br />

opened up a beautiful farm. Disposing of the farm, they settled in<br />

Madison, in 1S45, where they remained until 1S52 or 53. when they<br />

removed to Minneapolis, then just founded, where they remained a<br />

few years, <strong>and</strong> then pushed back into the wilderness, south-west<br />

from that thriving city. Here, on the 28th of January, 1S74, Mr.<br />

Bushnell died, in the 72d year of <strong>his</strong> age.<br />

In reviewing the lives of these relatives, it is fair to assume that<br />

they have enjoyed a reasonable degree of happiness. But their lot, to<br />

our mind, has been a hard one. If a log cabin, a score of miles from<br />

any other habitation ; away from schools ; out of the range of ministers,<br />

doctors <strong>and</strong> lawyers ; where the sound of the anvil has never
