From <strong>his</strong> will, executed March 2, 1770, <strong>and</strong> entered for probate<br />

June 16, 1778, we make the following extract:<br />

" Utcttt I Give <strong>and</strong> Bequeath Unto my true <strong>and</strong> Loving Wife Pernal<br />

Earl : all my Indoors Moveable Estate also : my Sidesaddle <strong>and</strong> one<br />

third part of my Liveing Stock of Cattle Sheep horses <strong>and</strong> Swine I<br />

als° Give Her my Gould Sleave Buttens <strong>and</strong> my Silver Shoe Buckell<br />

all wich I Give to Her <strong>and</strong> to Her Heirs <strong>and</strong> Assigns for Ever. I<br />

also Give Her the Use <strong>and</strong> Improvement of my Now Dwelling<br />

e ' House <strong>and</strong> y yard round s d House <strong>and</strong> orchard adjoyning s d yard<br />

Dureing Her Natural Life. I also Give to my s d Wife the Keeping<br />

e<br />

of One Rideing horse & y Keeping of one Cow to be kept weell or<br />

with Sufficient Hay <strong>and</strong> grass on my Homesed farm Dureing her<br />

Natural Life I also Give Her twelve Pound Lawfull mony to be paid<br />

Her yearly <strong>and</strong> Every Year after my Desease Dureing Her Natural<br />

life I also Give Her ten Bushels of Good Indian Coarn <strong>and</strong> ten<br />

Pounds of Good Marchantable Sheeps Woll yearly <strong>and</strong> Every year<br />

During Her Natural Life also Seven Coard of Wood yearly <strong>and</strong><br />

Every year as above s d she cuting & carting the same. All Which<br />

I Give to my Said Wife Parnel Earl In Lew of Her thirds or Right<br />

), son of <strong>Ralph</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> Dorcas (Sprague) <strong>Earle</strong>; m. Dec. 26, 1695, Hephzibah<br />

(b. 1675), dau. of Thomas <strong>and</strong> Elizabeth Butts.<br />

" I William <strong>Earle</strong>, son of <strong>Ralph</strong> <strong>Earle</strong>, of Dartmouth," in consideration<br />

of sixty-five pounds sterling, convey to Peleg Slocum, "one<br />

quarter part of the westermost Isl<strong>and</strong> called Elizabeth Isl<strong>and</strong>, alias<br />

Cotohunko, containing, by estimation, one hundred <strong>and</strong> twelve<br />

acres." August 29, 1693.<br />

On the same day he conveyed to the said Slocum the use of one-<br />

eighth part of the same isl<strong>and</strong> during the life of <strong>his</strong> father, <strong>Ralph</strong>.<br />

February 3, 1696, in consideration of thirty pounds sterling, he<br />

conveyed to Robert Havens one hundred acres of l<strong>and</strong> in Dartmouth.<br />

He was chosen constable in 1695, <strong>and</strong> again March 30, 1696.<br />

<strong>The</strong> children of William <strong>and</strong> Hephzibah (Butts) <strong>Earle</strong><br />

were :<br />

60-4. Thomas <strong>Earle</strong>, b. Jan. 17, 1704.
