He received a commission from Governor Sprague, in 1863, as<br />

Colonel of the National Cadets of Providence. He was one of the<br />

members of the famous "Water Witch Sixes" of Providence, in the<br />

volunteer fire department. He was President of the Heaton Button<br />

Fastener <strong>and</strong> the St<strong>and</strong>ard Button Companies, <strong>and</strong> for years was a<br />

trustee of the Pawtucket Institution for Savings.<br />

Mr. <strong>Earle</strong> had resided in Pawtucket a score of years, <strong>and</strong> was<br />

always very much interested in town affairs, taking a prominent part<br />

in all the important matters that arose, <strong>and</strong> serving the town as<br />

Senator in the General Assembly. He was equable in temperament<br />

<strong>and</strong> genial in manner, <strong>and</strong> though he held a high position socially,<br />

<strong>his</strong> chief pleasure was the enjoyment of <strong>his</strong> home <strong>and</strong> <strong>family</strong>.<br />
