he perceived that a British officer was close upon him with uplifted<br />

sword. He turned, fired, <strong>and</strong> instantly killed the officer.<br />

1787., Sally Tarbell, <strong>and</strong> lived in Chester, where <strong>his</strong><br />

children were born. He afterward removed to Brown-<br />

ville, Jefferson Co., N. Y., <strong>and</strong> d. there Feb. 1, 1839.<br />

He was a farmer <strong>and</strong> sometimes worked at shoemaking.
