at the time of <strong>his</strong> death.<br />

After <strong>his</strong> removal to Worcester, as already related, he <strong>and</strong> <strong>his</strong><br />

brother Thomas became associated as T. & O. K. <strong>Earle</strong>, in the lum-<br />

ber trade. T<strong>his</strong> business connection continued several years ; but, in<br />

1857, ne united with Mr. Willard Jones, under the firm name of <strong>Earle</strong><br />

& Jones, in the establishment of an iron foundry. T<strong>his</strong> proved a<br />

successful enterprise <strong>and</strong> he was engaged in it until the time of <strong>his</strong><br />

decease.<br />

He was for several years a member of the School Committee of<br />

Worcester, <strong>and</strong> was on the Hoard of Aldermen at the time of the<br />

establishment of the public water-works, by which water from the<br />

Lynde reservoir, in Leicester, was brought into the City. He was<br />

much interested in t<strong>his</strong> sanitary provision, <strong>and</strong> devoted much time to<br />

its promotion <strong>and</strong> completion.<br />

David <strong>and</strong> Susan A. (Barker) Buffum, of Middletown,<br />

R. I. ; lived in Worcester, Mass., <strong>and</strong> d. May 25, 1877.<br />

Edward <strong>Earle</strong> attended a district school <strong>and</strong> the Academy in<br />

Leicester, <strong>and</strong> completed <strong>his</strong> education at the Friends' school in<br />

Providence, R. I. He subsequently taught the school of the district<br />

in which he lived. Soon after the attainment of the age of twenty-<br />

one years, he went, in 1S32, to Worcester, <strong>and</strong> became engaged in<br />

mercantile business, temporarily as clerk in the flour store of <strong>his</strong><br />

cousin, Robert <strong>Earle</strong>, <strong>and</strong> afterward in copartnership with General<br />

Nathan Heard. Before <strong>his</strong> marriage, in 1S35, ne ^ia
