dau. of Capt. Lot <strong>and</strong> Lydia Poole, of Boston, Mass. ;<br />

issue, 2 ch. ; 2d, March 23, 1844, Caroline, dau. of Josiah<br />

<strong>and</strong> Lucinda Smith, of Lexington, Mass. ;<br />

issue, 5 ch.<br />

He removed to Boston, Mass., about 1828, <strong>and</strong> soon established<br />

himself in business as a merchant tailor. He was the head of the<br />

firm of John <strong>Earle</strong> & Co., a house now long well known in the<br />

eastern section of Massachusetts. Having pursued the business<br />

nearly sixty years, he retired from it on the 30th of April, 1886. He<br />

sold <strong>his</strong> interest to <strong>his</strong> son Walter <strong>and</strong> two other persons, who con-<br />

tinue it without alteration of the long-established name <strong>and</strong> style.<br />

He now lives in New York city in winter, <strong>and</strong> at Narragansett Pier,<br />

R. I., in summer.<br />

2901-2. Walter <strong>Earle</strong>, b. Jan. 14, 1835 ; m. Aug. 8, 1872, Mary<br />

P. Moore, of Waltham, Mass. ; 1 son, b. Dec. 30, 1873 ;<br />

d. Dec. 31, 1873.
