Enterprise Relational Database Server (RDMS)
5.19. Enterprise Relational Database Server (RDMS)
ClearPath OS 2200 Release 13.1
RDMS Level 17R2
Migration
The format of the section (the internal data structure that represents the SQL statement)
was enhanced in RDMS 16R2 (CP12.1). Programs compiled on earlier levels will execute
on RDMS level 16R2 and later levels, however, extra CPU is required to convert from the
old format to the new format. For best performance:
• Recompile all COBOL and C programs that contain static Embedded SQL.
• Recreate all Stored Procedures and triggers.
This performance consideration was not documented in the ClearPath Software Planning
and Migration Overview in Releases 12.1 or 13.0, so some sites may not have
recompiled their programs nor recreated their stored procedures and triggers after the
installation of RDMS levels 16R2 or 17R1. Such sites may wish to perform that action
after the installation of RDMS 17R2.
General Considerations
• Lower level Relational Database Server databases are upwardly compatible with
higher-level databases. You do not have to recompile or recollect user programs to
modify the database or to unload or load data.
• Most existing user programs run without modification. The main exception to this
principle is the addition of certain reserved words. (Refer to the items in this section
that discuss reserved words.)
• The RSA component of Relational Database Server software is tightly coupled with
the rest of Relational Database Server software. The level of the RSA component
must match the Relational Database Server level. For example, RSA level 17R1 must
be used with Relational Database Server level 17R1. (The RSA component is
installed in a separate file from the rest of Relational Database Server. You can use
the RSA for any application group to connect with a Relational Database Server in a
different application group as long as this rule is strictly observed.)
ClearPath OS 2200 Release 13.0
RDMS Level 17R1
Migration
If you fall back to an earlier level of RDMS:
• Tables containing in-record BLOBs will not be accessible
• Programs containing the new multi-column predicates will not execute.
