Dorado 400, 4000, 4100, and 4200 Server Systems Terminology Overview
A System Architecture Interface Layer (SAIL) provides the interface between the Intel
hardware and the OS 2200 Integrated Operating Environment (IOE, for nonmetered
systems) or Unisys Operating Environment (UOE, for metered systems), which is the
foundation of the ClearPath enterprise server software model. SAIL also provides
console and peripheral connectivity for the Dorado 400, 4000, 4100, and 4200 Server
system.
Internal I/O Cell
SAIL software is installed at the customer site onto an external redundant array of
independent disks (RAID) (Dorado 400/4000 only) or onto the integrated disks of the
lower cost base system (Dorado 400/4000/4100/4200).
Remote I/O Cell
A Dorado 400 Server system can have a remote I/O cell; a Procnode cell is required to
connect the remote I/O cell to the internal I/O cell.
The remote I/O cell provides SIOPs for the attachment of OS 2200 storage peripherals.
I/O Expansion Module
A Dorado 4000/4100 Server system will have a minimum of one I/O Expansion Module.
Each IOP in the I/O Expansion Module connects to its own PCI Channel Module.
3.10.1. Administration and Operation Components
The administration and operation of the Dorado 400, 4000, 4100, or 4200 Server system
is provided by Server Sentinel, Operations Sentinel, OS 2200 Server Management
Control (SMC), and the SAIL Control Center.
Service Processor, Server Sentinel, and OS 2200 Server Management
Control
Release 1 of Dorado 400 Server systems only supports embedded Service Processors.
The embedded Service Processor is housed in the Control Module within the cells. The
Service Processor attaches to both the hardware LAN and the maintenance LAN, which
are virtual networks on the Server Sentinel LAN.
Release 1 uses only the Server Sentinel features included in the firmware release,
including Call Home and remote services software; it does not use the Server Sentinel
Management components. Server Sentinel does not manage the OS 2200 environment;
it manages the underlying hardware and firmware platform. A new software component
called OS 2200 Server Management Control manages the OS 2200 environment.
Through Server Sentinel, the system looks like a standard hardware platform, except the
operating system type for the Dorado 400 Series partition is shown in the Server
Sentinel user interface as OS 2200 for IA32 Processor Family with 64-bit Extensions.
Server Sentinel server software runs on the embedded Service Processor and can be
accessed from any Server Sentinel workstation configured on the maintenance LAN.
