Glossary
database
A set of permanent files that belong to an application group and that organize data and
access to the data in a particular way. The possible types of databases in a TIP
applications environment are those handled by UDS data managers (DMS 2200, RDMS
2200, or SFS 2200) and FCSS or Freespace databases, handled by TIP file control.
Display Processing System (DPS 2200)
The product that handles screen development and display. It can also handle messages
for TIP programs that use either MCB or COMPOOL.

ECL

Executive Control Language (ECL)
The interface between users and the operating system. ECL provides a set of
statements that allow users to start and control runs; generate and execute programs;
create, delete, erase, copy, and otherwise manipulate files; and send messages to the
console and to other terminals (if allowed).
extended mode
A type of program that is the result of compilation by the UCS COBOL, UCS FORTRAN,
or UCS C compiler and linking by the UCS Linking System. The program is an object
module; if it is a TIP or HVTIP program, it is a ZOOM. Object modules are linked
dynamically; ZOOMs are the result of static linking, so they can be executed more
quickly than object modules.
Extended Transaction Capacity (XTC)
A grouping of software features that supports both TIP and UDS environments. XTC
provides increased processing capacity by using multiple hosts.
Extended Transaction Processing Architecture (XTPA)
Multiple-host systems that extend the availability and capacity of OS 2200 transaction
processing environments. The XTPA systems available for OS 2200 are Extended
Transaction Capacity (XTC) and Partitioned Applications.
