Open Programming Environment (OPE)
OPE Level 4R1H or Higher
Migration and Compatibility Considerations
The UCARD parameter is no longer required, but it is included for backward
compatibility. If there is a UCARD entry, that OS 2200 user-id/password is used for the
background run that supports the OPE communications and chronological tasks (CRON
RUN). Otherwise, the user-id of the user initiating the OPE boot is used for the
background run. The user-id/password can contain characters from the set (A through Z,
0 through 9, /, and *). This user-id must have real-time capabilities.
The UCARD changes also affect user commands demand(1) and submit(1). With
demand and submit, the user-id of the current run is used when a UCARD is not present.
Submitl and demandl no longer require that the user-id/password be present in the
submit and demand files as long as the first line in the file starts with @run. Consult the
OPE online man pages for more details.
Mail Considerations
Considerations for setting up Mail and Domain Name Resolver in OPE are as follows:
Mail Setup
The mail system is a port of UnixWare mail. Setting up mail involves the following steps:
1. Before upgrading to OPE level 4R1H or higher, run
/usr/lib/mail/surrcmd/smtpsched
This processes any messages queued in the SMTP mail queue /var/spool/smtpq.
In UnixWare mail, the mail queue is /var/spool/mailq and the
/usr/lib/mail/surrcmd/smtpsched program no longer exists.
2. After replacing the /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow, and /etc/group files with your saved
copies, modify them so there is a mail user-id and the home directory for smtp is
/var/spool/mailq and not /var/spool/smtpq. Make the following changes:
• /etc/passwd:
Replace the lines for uucp, nuucp, and smtp as follows:
uucp:x:5:5:0000-uucp(0000):/usr/lib/uucp:
nuucp:x:10:10:0000-uucp(0000):/usr/spool/uucppublic:/usr/lib/uucp/uucico
smtp:x:55:6:SMTP Processes:/var/spool/mailq:/usr/bin/sh
Add the following line for the mail uid immediately after the line for the uucp uid:
mail:x:6:6:Mail Processes:/etc/mail:
