TREG utility<br />

A TIP utility that the administrator can use to register an Exec file with TIP. However,<br />

FREIPS is the preferred TIP file control utility.<br />

UCS C<br />

See Universal Compiling System (UCS).<br />

The compiler used on <strong>OS</strong> <strong>2200</strong> systems to compile extended mode programs written in<br />

the C programming language.<br />

UCS COBOL<br />

The compiler used on <strong>OS</strong> <strong>2200</strong> systems to compile extended mode programs written in<br />

the COBOL programming language.<br />

UCS FORTRAN<br />

The compiler used on <strong>OS</strong> <strong>2200</strong> systems to compile extended mode programs written in<br />

the FORTRAN programming language.<br />

UDS<br />

See Universal Data System.<br />

UDS Control<br />

The component of the Universal Data System that controls locking, cache management,<br />

recovery, system table control, <strong>and</strong> thread control for all UDS data management facilities.<br />

UDS/TIP file<br />

See TIP file.<br />

Unisys Repository Manager (UREP)<br />

A container for data objects <strong>and</strong> other database information used by components of<br />

UDS. Programmers can use UREP to define runstreams <strong>and</strong> programs that use the data<br />

contained in UREP.<br />

Unit Duplexing<br />

An Exec feature that maintains two disk devices with identical information. This disk<br />

redundance method ensures data integrity <strong>and</strong> availability in the event that a disk, disk<br />

device, or file failure occurs. See also duplex files; TIP file duplexing.<br />

Universal Compiling System (UCS)<br />

A feature grouping that includes the UCS COBOL, UCS FORTRAN, <strong>and</strong> UCS C compilers<br />

<strong>and</strong> the Linking System. UCS produces extended mode programs.<br />

Universal Data System (UDS)<br />

A system for complete database creation <strong>and</strong> management that includes UDS Control<br />

<strong>and</strong> its three data managers, DMS <strong>2200</strong>, RDMS <strong>2200</strong>, <strong>and</strong> SFS <strong>2200</strong>. UDS provides<br />

access to any of the databases.<br />
